Hello fellow PAN members. I'm newcomer when it comes to being a Patent Advisor and I'm still learning what it is all about . I have been a community advisor on some community-based Participatory Research projects and it was through this involvement that I joined the team on the following study. (see below). However in order to continue this great work we need more participants to interview. If anyone feels they fit the criteria (see below) and wants to take part (and earn $50) or know someone that would be interested please contact Dr. Giles and she would be happy to set up a time.

      thank you all

My name is Audrey Giles and I am a professor conducting research at the University of Ottawa. I am wondering if you might be willing to spread the word to your networks about a research project “Exploring Advisory Board Members' Experiences of Community-Based Participatory Research”? The objective of this research is to better understand the experiences of people who have participated in community-based participatory research as advisory board members (i.e., been involved in the decision-making process). Topics discussed will relate to people’s thoughts about their involvement, relationships between researchers and advisory board members, and successes and challenges of involvement.

This research will be conducted through semi-structured interviews that will be over Zoom or phone.

The interview will take approximately 45 to 90 minutes. Participants do not have to answer any questions that you not wish to.

If someone does choose to participate, they are free to withdraw at any time. If they withdraw, they will still receive an honorarium of $50 for their participation. Further, if you choose not to participate, this information will also be maintained in confidence.

I am available to answer any questions about the study. I can be contacted me at (613) 761-0092 (cell) or email agiles@uottawa.ca.

      Sincerely,

      Audrey Giles

This sounds interesting - I am not sure if I am the candidate your require? I am a Board of Director for an organization - I worked with a team from the U. of A. on a program for senior's medication use. I was also the facilitator for a pilot project of this program in a rural community and collected on-site data, which was later used in a paper in conjunction with other data collected from interviews with participants.

Hi Linda I think your involvement with the U of A study would qualify you. I'll send your e-mail to Audrey and she'll get back to you and hopefully you can take part

Hi Michael. Thanks for your prompt response. Understand completely the need to pause and also refresh. We’ve all been through a long haul. I am also on a community-based Advisory Board for our City’s Older Adult Programs. That might be the most fitting.

Hi Kathy I will get back to you on this and thank you for your interest, for a few reasons we put this project on pause but its not dead. I'll get in touch with the Principal Investigator and she or myself will get back to you. I'll be away this weekend with no internet and I think the PI might be on her summer "stayaction". at the moment. We'll be in touch

I have served on the Cancer Care Ontario Steering Committee for Approval of Cancer Drugs for four years. I am on the Ontario Health Advisory Committees for Primary Care Quality, Surgical Wait Times and and Access to Care Diagnostic Improvement Program. If this meets your requirements, I’d be happy to participate.
