      For those interested in health technology and/or AI, the inroads of AI into the health sector over the last few years has been impossible to ignore. While AI holds undoubted promise, there is a concerning trend of vendors requiring unfettered access to or outright ownership of patient data as part of the 'price' of deploying new tools and platforms. So as a patient partner, I feel I need to learn as much as possible about new AI health research and initiatives.

      So I was delighted to discover a free fully hybrid 2-day workshop on NeuroAI hosted by the US National Institutes of Health on November 12-13, open to all interested parties including patients and public.

      From the website:
      The BRAIN NeuroAI Workshop will bring together researchers across career levels and diverse fields to explore how the BRAIN Initiative’s data, tools, and technologies can reciprocally advance the emerging science at the intersection of neuroscience and AI. Discovering fundamental principles of intelligence in biological and artificial systems will require new approaches, models, metrics, and ethical frameworks for comparing, evaluating, and developing theories and technologies about brains, brain-like computing, and future applications for advancing brain health.

        Chris, you are so right! We all need to know as much as we can about AI or decisions will be made without us and our data may become out of our control. Thanks for this.

        Let's all post opportunities to learn more about AI.

          @Alies-Maybee Thanks Alies!

          In that spirit, I thought the following resource might be useful 🙂

          In March, the US National Academies of Science, Engineering & Medicine (NASEM) hosted a 2-day workshop, and have now published the proceedings as a free downloadable report entitled:

          Exploring the Bidirectional Relationship Between Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience: Proceedings from a Workshop

          One of the key findings they highlighted recognized the need for patient and public involvement:
          Incorporating potential users at every stage of the design process will help build public trust and more effective systems.

          For more info including a one-page overview, the full report, a short explanatory video, and a link to a recording of the original workshop, visit the link above.
