The culture in research needs opening up.

How can we be fully embraced in a research workplace culture? The health research world is a unique culture. Like any workplace culture, it has its own norms, language, and ways of working that form unconscious assumptions -- becoming the research cultural lens. There is an implicit power imbalance between the “in crowd” and us as outsiders. This unease is seen in some of the unfortunate experiences we have as partners on teams and other aspects of research because of the unconscious bias of the research cultural lens.
