The Minister of Health, with the support of the Minister of Seniors, has been mandated to develop national standards on long-term care and a Safe Long-Term Care Act to ensure seniors get the care they deserve. On January 31, 2023, we welcomed the release of independent long-term care standards from CSA Group and the Health Standards Organization.

Now that the national standards have been released, we will engage and collaborate with provinces and territories, experts and stakeholders to seek perspectives on a Safe Long-Term Care Act. Legislation will respect federal, provincial, territorial and Indigenous jurisdiction. That is, it won’t mandate standards or regulate long-term care delivery.

      Open to Sept 21, 2023
