The use of commercial virtual care services in Canada exploded with the COVID-19 pandemic. The companies providing the services gather many forms of data on patients from personal health information to user information (e.g., internet protocol (IP) addresses). In our session we will present an overview of the direct-to-patient virtual care industry in Canada from system drivers to the resulting privacy-related ethical concerns for individuals, groups and society. We will present recommendations for change.
