      I am going to a Curriculum Day for Interprofessional Education tomorrow. It has pre-reading and I came upon an interesting item.

      They're talking about the 'banking model' of education - where the teacher is the expert and learner is the recipient of knowledge. Thinking along the lines of a banking metaphor, the learner is a passive recipient of deposits of knowledge...

      The banking model maintains the status quo because those in lower positions of power (learners) are not granted the explicit opportunity to generate or share knowledge. In the banking model, those in higher positions of power (curriculum developers, educators) control what is taught.
