Most of us know how frustrating it is to learn about health, illness, healthcare and medical treatment.

Most research studies are accessible only through paywalls in scholarly journals. And then they are written for a specialist audience. But we know that the more we are able to learn, the safer and healthier we, our families and our communities will be. As we're expected to take on more responsibility for care and care decisions, it's no easier to learn.

Some people in health sciences and research are trying to so something about this.

The University of British Columbia has announced Open Access Week at UBC, October 22-28, 2018. Take a look below at what's on here in Vancouver, and talk to your nearest educational institution and research centre about doing the same.

      Public access to public information?
YES WE CAN! We can open up ACCESS.

Talk to your local librarian for help!

      From the UBC announcement:

Learn more about what Open Access and Open Education means for researchers, students and faculty, and RSVP for events:

      https://about.library.ubc.ca/open-access/

Open Access is a movement encouraging the removal of barriers to scholarly research so that scholarly work is accessible to people everywhere. Access is available to everyone: students, policy makers, health care workers, professionals, educators, scholars in the developing world, and the public.
