I attended an interesting webinar with Queensland Health Translation yesterday where they launched a new framework for partnering with patients/families/caregivers and communities in research. Note: they use the term 'consumers' for PFCs.

They've clearly put a lot of thought and work into it - and at first glance I think it's moving in the right direction.

In addition, they've launched a microgrants opportunity to encourage researchers to involve PFCs right from the start - they're offering $1500 to cover the very initial stage of involvement to shape the research question - and it can be used as direct remuneration to patient partners. With an additional bump of $1000 for those who commit to using, documenting and reviewing the new framework throughout their project.

It's an interesting approach and well worth exploring and sharing.

      • Download the new CCI Framework

      • Microgrants incentive to use the framework

      • Recording and slides for the launch webinar

Seems to be the season for new frameworks 🙂

Attending the Northwest Patient Safety Conference this morning, and BC's Provincial Health Services Authority launched their new framework which offers guidance for planning patient and family engagement for projects, programs, research and health system initiatives.

PHSA's Patient & Family Engagement Framework is presented as a 42 page brochure but it's well worth the read.

It's encouraging to see that both frameworks are recommending more active partnership activities, as well as a trauma-informed approach, which feels like an overdue shift in perspective.
