The Canadian Core Data for Interoperability (CACDI){1} data set is a subset of the Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework (p-CHDCF){2} .

It defines the health data set that can be exchanged between EMRs, and between jurisdictions. That means: the data elements in your patient record, can be exchanged between different EMRs, and different provinces/territories. This is part of the national healthcare data exchange strategy.

In conjunction with Canada Health Infoway's HALO framework, Canada now has a national definitions on how to exchange health data. Prior to this, each province defined its own.

When it comes to national interoperability, CIHI defines what gets exchanged; while Infoway defines how it will get exchanged. (Presentation summary from CIHI on Sept.24, 2025)
