      Hello,

Are you interested in playing a part in the collective effort to improve health care for patients? Then this call for expressions of interest is for you!

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is looking for people willing to give their time as Patient reviewers for a number of upcoming research grant and award competitions.

Patient reviewers play an important role in the research proposal review process by contributing their lived experience and expertise in patient engagement. Each competition has specific review criteria, and patient reviewers provide a perspective that complements that of reviewers from the academic and scientific communities. CIHR will provide you with support and training throughout each review process, in the meantime this learning module (20 min.) provides an overview of what to expect when participating in peer review activities.

Review committee meetings will be conducted virtually (via MS Teams) and will run through at least the end of 2023. Participants will receive an allowance of $50 per day for every day that a committee meeting takes place, in addition to the reimbursement of dependent care costs if required.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete our online form or reply to this email (SPOR-Awards-SRAP-Bourses@cihr-irsc.gc.ca) with the following information:

      · your full name

      · your email address

      · Reflecting on your lived experience, briefly describe the health issue(s) that you are comfortable reviewing (e.g., condition, illness, treatments, and/or aspect of the health care system). This information will assist us in matching your personal experience to review opportunities as they arise.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this call for expressions of interest. I sincerely hope you will be able to take part in this vital initiative with us.

For more information, please email us at SPOR-Awards-SRAP-Bourses@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.

      Sincerely,

      Paula Kirton
