A great step for equity of access to information for patient partners. Just received this email notification:

Effective immediately, all new CMAJ content will be freely available to all readers, and previously published material will be available on March 1, 2020.

      See news article at: http://cmajnews.com/2020/01/14/cmaj-drops-paywall/

For authors, this means that your articles, from commentaries and reviews to research, news, editorials, analyses and clinical practice items, will be accessible to anyone. This will broaden dissemination of articles published in CMAJ to readers and health care professionals in Canada and around the word.

Removing the paywall will allow many more people to access evidence-based content in CMAJ relevant to the health of Canadians and Canada's health care systems.

For CMA members and subscribers, it means seamless access to content with no log in required.
There will be no change to the publication fee for research.

CMAJ is grateful to Joule, and the CMA Board, for supporting this decision.
