      A Declaration of Family Caregiver Rights and Responsibilities Affirms the Role of Family Caregivers as an Essential Component of Care

      Hello PAN Folks;
      As we know from media reporting and our lived experience, during COVID-19, there have been many family caregivers unable to perform their caregiver’s duties due to restrictions to enter health care facilities. Consequently, there has been much human suffering related to vulnerable people isolated in these institutional settings. This has negatively impacted mostly older persons. The goal of the Declaration is to affirm that family caregivers are more than just visitors and we are trying to prevent what we see as an infringement of our rights to be with, protect, and support our vulnerable loved ones when they enter some institution- LTC or hospital or other setting.

      The people behind the Plan Well Guide, Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association and numerous provincial and national organizations are asking us to do the following:

      1. Sign a petition here.
      2. Share the Declaration with their networks (e.g. through your newsletter, social media pages/twitter, website, email listservs, etc.).
      3. Tell their story as it relates to #NotJustAVisitor on Twitter or on our website.
