      Hi PAN friends,

Very welcome news that the CMAJ is now a journal that includes us as readers and (hopefully) contributors, too.

This follows their enlightened leadership that has welcomed patient and caregiver participation over the last couple of years. Some of you now attend their conferences, serve on advisory committees and write reviews of manuscripts submitted for publication. The door has just swung open even more widely!

New editor-in-chief Dr Andreas Laupacis has long been a strong champion of the patient and caregiver voice in his research and writing. This journal is not only widely read in Canada but has a great reputation internationally. We are leaders!

Congratulations to the CMAJ! Do take a look at the current issue and back volumes of the journal HERE. Consider writing a letter to the editor or commentary. It would be great to see articles and opinions from our community across Canada.

Best wishes to each of you in 2020. I'll hope to meet you more often on these discussion boards -- my new year's resolution!

      Cheers, Carolyn

      -------------

Effective immediately, all new CMAJ content will be freely available to all readers, and previously published material will be available on March 1, 2020. See news article at: http://cmajnews.com/2020/01/14/cmaj-drops-paywall/

For authors, this means that your articles, from commentaries and reviews to research, news, editorials, analyses and clinical practice items, will be accessible to anyone. This will broaden dissemination of articles published in CMAJ to readers and health care professionals in Canada and around the word.

Removing the paywall will allow many more people to access evidence-based content in CMAJ relevant to the health of Canadians and Canada’s health care systems.

For CMA members and subscribers, it means seamless access to content with no log in required.

There will be no change to the publication fee for research.

CMAJ is grateful to Joule, and the CMA Board, for supporting this decision.

Terrific to hear this. Many thanks for the update and "everyone's support" of this. We cannot but make improvements when knowledge, research is widely shared and understood.

          Best, Denyse
