Getting Involved in Research

I was thinking about the problems I had getting involved ie getting past the first step. When I wanted to be an engaged patient I was lucky to have accumulated skills that helped me to be persistent, challenging (but not too challenging), and to be able to find ammunition to make my case for the issues I cared about and use it as a tool.

So what I was wondering if you are newer to involvement in research, or if you want to and haven't been able to yet:

Has it gotten any easier?

Is the first step the hardest step?

Are we making progress?

I had to stalk SPOR like a hunter, and even when I got it in my sights the 'meaningful' part eluded me.
