For everyone:
this standard is meant to establish "rules" for comparing Artificial Intelligence systems used in Clinical Decision Support (CDS). These CDS systems are getting slowly incorporated into your doctors' EMRs (electronic medical records).

As a standard, this is what a CDS system will be compared to. People like Accreditation Canada will use such standards as a way of reporting on organizations (hospitals, clinics) about their quality of care.

Some interesting components of the standard:

the UAII: acts as a "license plate" for the AI module (sect. 6.3) dataset provenance: there needs to be a trace of what data was used for training the AI module (sect. 7.1.1) AI Decision Summary for patient visibility (sect. 5)

Section 5.4.3 - who was asking about advertising in clinical systems?

Based on this discussion, I think we need to redefine what data for secondary use looks like.

What other things - not covered in the above matrix - would people like to see their PHI (personal health information) used for?

What secondary use is off-limits?

Here is an Ontario story on the cost of data fragmentation. I like the woman's solution, but am also aware that patients with chronic/complex needs are unable to do this.

At your next doctor's visit - start asking for a paper summary of your visits; start a binder.

@Sandra-Holdsworth There's no mention in this article of people going to AI to obtain a dx or treatment, which we know happens because of the long wait times in the ER, etc.

@Sandra-Holdsworth Thank you so much for sharing this, Sandra!! This one immediately caught my attention and I’ll definitely be writing my MP about Bill S-243! As a 22-year-old woman who has been navigating healthcare since childhood, I’ve learned VERY early that women’s health is so much bigger than reproductive health. I was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 11 and have since navigated chronic illness, pain, mental health, serious illness and the transition from pediatric to adult care. Now getting to bring those experiences into healthcare advocacy makes this feel especially personal. Women and girls deserve research, education and healthcare systems actually designed with our bodies and experiences in mind and not treated like an afterthought and women with lived experience absolutely need to be helping shape whatever comes next, not just consulted at the very end.
