We’re delighted to announce the launch of the 2026–2027 lineup for HDRN Canada’s Big IDEAs About Health Data Speaker Series!

Now in its fourth year, Big IDEAs continues to spotlight leading voices from research, policy, health care and the public sector, exploring how administrative data can be used to advance health equity in Canada.

We’re incredibly grateful to this year’s speakers, who bring diverse perspectives and thought-provoking questions to the series. Kienan Williams opens the season with a presentation on his research into disaggregating Status and non-Status Indigenous population data and increasing precision in Indigenous population analysis. Next, Heather Krause, founder of We All Count, explores the importance of building equity values into health data research and the use of AI tools.

Mary-Ann Standing and Dr. Kate Kelly bring us behind the scenes of an equity-informed climate adaptation project in Prince Edward Island, offering a candid look at what happens when lived experience and community knowledge genuinely shape research. Dr. Divya Shanmugam turns our attention to artificial intelligence in health care, sharing her work on auditing health data to build more trustworthy AI for human-centred care. In the last session of the season, Dr. Amanda Fowler-Woods explores Indigenous methodologies, data and community governance, and the importance of community-led approaches to Indigenous data.
